Rockport, TX Fishing Reports

Current Coastal Bend Angler Update

Real-time water conditions on the Texas middle coast are shaping up beautifully, with warm summer temperatures holding steady and clear water driving aggressive bites across the flats. Anglers are reporting phenomenal action on both live bait and artificials in the shallow bays. Our recent excursions have encountered highly active grass flats and sand pockets, making this a prime window to secure a date on the water.

Trophy Fish Caught

The local shallows are currently holding remarkable numbers of heavy-hitting game fish, with spectacular speckled trout and massive, hard-pulling redfish leading the charge. Recent trips have produced impressive trophy fish class catches, including gorgeous gator trout measuring well into the upper-slot limit and powerful red drum actively tailing in the skinny water. We are also encountering hard-fighting black drum over shell reefs, giving anglers a fantastic opportunity to test their drag and pull in a memorable, heavy-weight prize.

Family-Friendly Fishing Adventures

At Rocky Branch Charters, we specialize in providing family-friendly fishing charters that are perfectly tailored for parents, kids, and beginners alike. Our light, ultra-stable kayaks allow younger anglers to feel close to the water in a secure environment while learning easy, highly effective techniques like drifting live shrimp under a popping cork. We emphasize a relaxed, patient approach to guidance, focusing on boat safety, proper casting methods, and—above all—having a great time while keeping everyone hooked up with steady action.

Fishing Year-Round in Rockport

One of the greatest advantages of the Texas Coastal Bend is our ability to offer exceptional fishing year-round. While late spring and summer bring fast-paced surface action for trout and redfish, the cooler autumn and winter months concentrate massive schools of black drum and redfish in key deeper channels and protected bayous. Regardless of the season, our localized knowledge of wind patterns, tides, and migratory habits ensures we can always find active, productive water.

Aransas Bay - Aransas, TX Flats Report on 16th Jul, 2026

The summer pattern is in full swing here in the Rockport and Aransas Pass flats. Despite having to dodge passing Gulf storms over the last few days, the local bite has remained highly active. If you are ready to work around the weather, the rewards are waiting on the water. The Early Morning Bite: We are finding big redfish holding tight in the shallow flats and pockets early in the morning. While the water is still cool, these fish are feeding aggressively. The Midday Transition: As the sun gets high and the temperature heats up, the redfish are shifting out of the shallows and moving into the deeper channels to find cooler water. Adjusting your depth as the day warms up is key to staying on the fish. We still have open dates running through the end of the summer season (September 1st), but spots are filling up. Book Your Summer Trip: Ready to get on the water and bend some rods? Give Captain Eric Whitworth a call directly at 817-243-8332 to check our remaining open dates and customize your kayak trip.
